The Waitangi Treaty Grounds is one of the most important historic sites in New Zealand. It’s located in the Bay of Islands in the Northland Region, and it’s where the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed on 6 February 1840 between representatives of the British Crown and various Māori chiefs. This treaty is considered New Zealand’s founding document.
