The prices vary considerably, so let me know which class you can afford according to your budget. Click   for an explanation of classes. You also need to budget approximately $50 pp per day towards food and excursions - the allowance is an average spread out over all the days. Not everyday is there an excursion scheduled and not everyday will involve eating in a restaurant, you may enjoy cooking in your self-contained motel some evenings. Prices are in New Zealand Dollars. Many establishments are self contained and do not provide breakfast unless requested. So you need to have a supply of your favourite breakfast ingredients, plus maybe some pasta and sauce for if you can’t   get to a restaurant in the evening.

Hotels are generally only available in the cities. Elsewhere "motels" are common - these are 1-3 bedroom cosy units with fully equipped kitchens and en suite bathrooms. Many "backpackers" are quite up-market and in magic locations and have private double rooms available with their own en suite, however the lounge and kitchen are available for common use with other guests.
